Dhaqan · Culture

Rooted in Somali dhaqan, told from the middle

Every Somali story begins the same way. The teller calls out "Sheeko, sheeko…" and everyone answers "Sheeko xariir" — a story of silk. This show carries that tradition from the campfire to the microphone.

Meet your host

Hi, I'm Hamdi.

I was born into a Somali family, came to the US in 1994, and now call the Midwest home. I'm a wife of eleven years, a hooyo of two, and someone who has spent her whole life in the middle — between cultures, between languages, between the person my family raised and the person I'm still becoming.

"The middle isn't a place you get stuck. It's a place you get to build from."

Every week I sit down for honest conversations about identity, marriage, motherhood, faith, and mental health. If you've ever felt caught between worlds, this show was made for you.
